From Memphis in the Mississippi Valley east to Knoxville and the Smokey Mountains, Tennessee is full of beautiful scenery, history and interesting places to visit. Famous as the birthplace of country music, Nashville remains it's heart and soul. Jack Daniels whiskey originated in Tennessee, lesser known is that Mt. Dew also came from the state. Blessed with natural beauty, Tennessee continues to deliver as an wonderful place to visit and travel.

Memphis in May is an annual month long event that showcases just about everything Memphis has to offer. 2010 honors and highlights the North African country of Tunisia.

The Beale Street Music Festival begins the month with three days of music magic on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. Celebrate Memphis's musical heritage including blues, rock, gospel and more at one event.

Mid May features the Memphis in May's World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. With over $90,000 in prizes there will be some amazing barbecue from hundreds of competitors. Not just about cooking, the contest includes a Miss Piggie Idol contest with men is tutu's vying for the crown and cooking booths are decorated for prizes.

End the Month with the amazing Sunset Symphony. A full day of activities on the river banks featuring local performers and an air show later in the day. At sunset the Memphis Symphony Orchestra performs with portions synchronized to a fireworks spectacular. A terrific event for the entire family.

Nashville, Music City USA, is undoubtedly mecca for country music artists and fans. Plan ahead now for the Country Music Awards festival in June for the ultimate country music experience. Daily performances by the top stars in the industry combined with parades, block parties, after hours performances and family fun events make it four days not to be missed.

In March Nashville Municipal Auditorium hosts the Nashville Blues Festival with a line up of the best blues performers in the country. Experience the music that gave roots to country music. The Gospel Music Celebration follows later in March at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.

Nashville of course has lots to offer in addition to music. April brings the Country Music Marathon and ½ Marathon. Associated with this is a terrific event for kids. The YMCA sponsors the Kids Marathon where children log 25.2 miles prior to the event in April where they come together to run the last mile. A great educational event promoting health and exercise for children.

Louisville is famous as the home of the Kentucky Derby which is the held the first Saturday in May. The 2010 race is the culmination of events and festivities throughout the year. The Derby Festival Spelling Bee is held in March followed by a student art display of kids favorite derby events. April the events intensify with fashion shows, luncheons, a golf tournament, running events, and even a bed making contest.

The Dogwood Arts Festival in Knoxville runs the entire month of April and showcases the best of the Knoxville regional visual and performing arts. 2010 is the 50th anniversary of the event with many exciting events to see or participate in. Noteworthy is 'A Very Special Arts Festival' in April where children with mental and physical challenges celebrate the arts in a mini festival. The Dogwood Parade is also held in April along with a variety of other events.
