Visiting Eastern Tennessee
You’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy your next visit to eastern Tennessee. With cities and towns weaving in and out of the Charokee National Forest, a wealth of premier attractions, and an impressive list of events and festivals, this region of the Volunteer State is ready for your stay. And during the fall and winter, places like Morristown, Newport, and Johnson City are eager to welcome you.
One of eastern Tennessee’s most exceptional cities is Knoxville. Be sure to plan a stay here this coming fall or winter and check out some of the A+ attractions around the city – and with nearby neighbors like Townsend and Pigeon Forge just minutes away, you’ll never miss a beat. The Tennessee Theatre hosts a number of top performances throughout the year, the Sunsphere yields excellent 360-degree views of the city.
As you plan your fall visit to Knoxville, be sure to check out the wide range of eclectic sounds and sights coming to the Tennessee Theatre. On October 16 you can catch a live performance by Ben Rector, and on October 25th the transcendent Bonnie Raitt comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. show. In November, you’ll have a chance to see some true legends – on the 9th Bob Dylan takes the stage at 8 p.m., and then on the 10th it’ll be classic rockers ZZ Top.
Knoxville, and its surrounding communities, will be awash in orange and white during the fall – this is UT country. The University of Tennessee’s 2016 football season kicks off on September 1st against Appalachian State, and they play through the end of November.
In between, catch some marquee match-ups against the Florida Gators on September 24th, the Alabama Crimson Tide on October 15th, and the Missouri Tigers on November 19th. Make the drive in from nearby Gatlinburg. All UT home games are played at Neyland Stadium near the UT campus in Knoxville.
Out in Chattanooga, enjoy a holiday celebration with the whole family. Check out the 22nd Annual Rock City Famous Christmas Light Extravaganza. From November 18th to December 31st, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly, you and the kids will be treated to dazzling light shows, classic holiday music, and even some picture time with Mrs. and Mrs. Claus. You can also make the short drive in from nearby East Ridge.
