Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion

A premier music festival in downtown Bristol, the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion is held on the state line between Tennessee and Virginia. This award-winning, three-day music festival celebrates country music heritage in Bristol, known as the "Birthplace of Country Music."

Live music is performed on 22 stages, including four outdoor stages, as festival-goers dance each night away in the dance tent. This annual September festival also has a children's stage with family-style activities. The chili cook-off, café, local restaurants and downtown shopping round out the event from nearby Johnson City.

Cherokee National Forest

Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park

See where the legendary American folkhero got his start at the Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park, located between Johnson City and Newport in eastern Tennessee. Visitors are treated to a replica of Crockett's birth cabin, a museum dedicated to his memory, and 105 acres of surrounding wooded forests with fishing opportunities.

Davy Crockett's entire story – from his hunting-heavy childhood to political career to death at the Battle of the Alamo – is told through the museum's exhibits. Further exhibitions detailing Appalachian frontier life can be found near the birthplace cabin, and visitors can experience a taste of frontier life themselves by hiking along the Nolichucky River.

East Tennessee State University

East Tennessee State University, opened in 1911, is large public university in Johnson City. As you explore the northern reaches of eastern Tennessee, stop by the campus of ETSU and check out the nearly 340-acre campus. You'll find the campus of Eastern Tennessee State University just southwest of downtown Johnson City, across from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. 

Whether you're a prospective student, in town to visit friends and family enrolled at ETSU, or hoping to enjoy top end athletics, explore the campus as fully as possible. You can visit the Roy S. Nicks Hall, Bud Frank Theatre, or the Charles C. Sherrod Library. College sports fans have options at ETSU: check out Thomas Stadium, home field of the ETSU Baseball team. 

Freedom Hall Civic Center

Seating 8,500 spectators, the Freedom Hall Civic Center is a multi-use venue, having hosted the popular Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus before, and all of the home basketball games for East Tennessee State University. Opened in 1974, Freedom Hall Civic Center also hosts Science Hill High School basketball games.

Established in 1794, Tusculum College is a private institution, sporting a diverse co-ed student body. Tusculum is the oldest college in Tennessee. Once you're on the campus of Tusculum College, check out some highlights like the Charles Oliver Gray Complex, the Garland Library, or the Doak House Museum. Pioneer Park is the home field of the Tusculum Pioneers baseball team.
