Beale Street developed in 1841 in downtown Memphis, from the Mississippi River to East Street. It's a popular tourist area and home to a variety of shops, restaurants and blues clubs. Just under 2 miles long, Beale Street hosts many outdoor concerts and festivals throughout the year. The spring-time Beale Street Music Festival hosts major musical performances and kicks off the month-long "Memphis in May" series of festivities.
The Church Park Auditorium, located in Church Park at the corner of 4th and Beale, hosts a variety of events. Franklin D. Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson are included in the list of the auditorium speakers. Visit this "Home of the Blues" to enjoy a day or night of Blues-fun in some of the many clubs and restaurants. The B.B. King Blues Club, Beale St. Tap Room, Silky O Sullivan's, Miss Polly's Soul City Cafe and the Rum Boogie Cafe are great spots. Enjoy a quiet and comfortable Best Western guest room after fun times along this historical Memphis street.
